Get to Know Project-Based Learning; Your Opportunity for a Free Training!
Who we are: We are a non-profit based at New Technology High School in Napa that focuses on 21st century learning by interweaving rigorous academic work and real world applications in order to prepare students for today and the future. We believe in academic rigorous learning in authentic contexts. We believe that project-based learning is for ALL learners. We believe PBL changes the lives of students; often enabling them to gain more than one year’s academic growth in one year’s time as well as make authentic connections to their community.
What we do: We offer a range of one-day to multiple-day professional learning opportunities for individuals, whole grade levels, or whole-school teams in project-based learning. We customize our own content, based on our experience of using PBL in the classroom for 23 years, to meet the needs of your school and district. We move participants from theory of implementation on design to how to achieve academic growth and improve the skills of students. We also have one-year to multiple-year school/district support options where we customize professional learning to meet your staff’s needs. We focus on knowing where staff are in their implementation and on the learning during the course of their projects. We host trainings on our campus in Napa and also travel to schools around the world to support and train teachers.
The Gap: Schools and communities cannot afford to have high quality professional learning in project-based learning because the financial cost is too high. The lack of financial resources increases the opportunity gap.
Our Solution: We are going to provide a two-day high quality professional learning opportunity in PBL on your site (we can travel to you!). The training will be customized be for K-5, 6-8, 9-12 or K-12. The training will be provided FREE of cost. The only costs incurred by the site will be travel.
The Process: A small panel of our team will review the applications of those schools interested in this opportunity. The applicants will be notified of their selection by December 1, 2019. After notification, we will work with the selected school to identify dates that will work for both the CFE and applicant winner.
- You are a school or site that has a vision for high-quality PBL.
- Your school works with students who are farthest from this opportunity (Yes, that is up to interpretation and we like it that way! Could be physically far from opportunity or economically.).
- You have not engaged in work with the Center for Excellence in the past.
Terms and Conditions: The winner will only pay travel costs (airfare/mileage, hotel, rental car if applicable). An estimate of costs will be provided up front. Training will be for two consecutive days. Any additional days can be added at the current Center for Excellence rate. The training will be capped at 35 attendees.
