New Technology High School’s Professional Development center, Center for Excellence, is proud to present Michael McDowell Ed.D and his book, Rigorous PBL by Design. The 3 day professional learning opportunity will include 3 days of learning at New Tech High School’s Center for Excellence. Teachers will learn about the 3 design shifts needed to occur to ensure high impact and effect size to maximize student success at the surface, deep and transfer levels.

What is unique about this experience? The Center for Excellence provides embedded professional development that incorporates learning and then observations of learners in action. We move from the theory of professional learning to living the learning and seeing the implications of the work in practice in the classrooms. During the course of the training, participants will learn how to design and deliver PBL effectively to gain more than one year results in one year’s time. The 3 day experience will begin with 2 days focusing on shifting the PBL design to Clarity and Challenge.  Each day will involve learning, sharing, planning, reflecting and observational learning walks of students in session. At the end of the 3 day cohort, participants will know how to design rigorous projects engage students in learning at the surface, deep and transfer level knowledge.

  • 3 days of training with Rigorous PBL by Design
  • Rigorous PBL by Design book
  • Handbook with resources, tools and strategies
  • Lunch each day of the training
  • Light continental breakfast each day of the training
  • Classroom observations
